More Than fifty five students of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University yesterday, renounced their membership of different cults in the university.
The Renunciation was performed during an inter denominational service organised by the university authority at the old site school field, Igbariam .
The interdenominational service and renunciation of cultism, attracted students from different faculties in the university, the clergy, lecturers, as well as principal officers of the institution.
Addressing the students, the Acting Vice chancellor of the University, Professor Greg Nwakoby, explained that the students who renounced cultism have been saved by God He reminded them that their primary aim in the university is to get educated, noting that they must be found worthy in learning and in character.
Professor Nwakoby who advised the students to take their studies serious as the era of sorting has gone, warned them to report any lecturer who engages in the sale of self authored books as well as engages in harassing female students sexually among others.
Earlier in a sermon to mark the interdenominational service, Venerable Joshua Onuora from Accountancy Department, reminded the students that as they make their bed, so they will lie on it, warning them not to allow anybody to deceive them into joining cultism which can ruin their future , stressing that there is no short cut to success.
The Parish Priest of Saint Anthony’s Parish, Amansea, Reverend Father Sylvester Dunu, conducted the renunciation service with special prayers for the students, urging them to trust in God.
Official renunciation of cultism, taking of oath by the students and presentation of Bibles to them formed the highpoint of the service.
